Teaching Philosophy
I am a strong believer in evidence-based practice and so strive to use teaching methods which are the most effective for the given context and the children in my class. This means I aim to provide fun, engaging lessons which challenge children. I do not ‘teach’ children, per se, instead I provide them with the learning opportunities and encourage them to take advantage of these opportunities. Some children may require assistance with accepting this responsibility, but that comes with the job!
I prefer skills-based learning, but recognise the usefulness, and indeed requirements, of providing content-based learning. In addition, I am very keen to involve parents in their child’s learning and strive to maintain good communication between parents and myself. Overall, I consider myself to be a reflective teacher and constantly reflect on may practice, responding to what works for me and what the research evidence suggests is most effective.
